The highest praise ever

seabird78So I hosted another installment of Tamale Hut Cafe Presents: this weekend, and was thoroughly entertained by Max Glaessner, my featured guest and kindred spirit in wrestling fandom. I was also thrilled to the point of giddiness over the all-star open mic line-up. I take sooooooo much pride in knowing that I bring my Tamale Hut audience nothing less than the best in terms of writing quality...not an easy feat considering I open the floor to anyone and everyone who fancies a turn as a storyteller. Including yours truly.
On this particular evening, my decision to put myself and my work out there paid off in the most unexpected and tremendously ego-boosting way.
C.S.E. Cooney, who was particularly captivating when she read a poem about a boy who turns into a mailbox and part of her story Household Spirits, blogged about her overall impressions of the event. Her thoughts on my open mic contribution were, and I QUOTE, "Jenny Seay writes about pro-wrestling the way Joe Meno writes about punk."
I don't think she had any idea how much meaning this statement would have, because I don't think I've ever told her about the limitless reverence I have for Joe as a writer, a professor/mentor, and all-around good guy.
This is the sort of stuff that inspires little ole' me to keep fighting the good fight, and be less of a shrinking violet when it comes to my aspirations of developing as an author. So Miss Claire, please accept my most humble and most public (or as public as I can be on an obscure blog) thanks for offering this too-insecure-for-her-own-good writer the highest praise ever.
