Hrmph

Our phone and Internet went out saturday afternoon, and was not available for most of the weekend, and you wanna know something funny? I didn't even mind all that much. I'm always saying that I'm so dependent on my e-mail and websites like this one, but the fact is, I don't suffer all that much when I'm without them. Got a chance to read and review some old writing, and just slow down and start mentally preparing for my upcoming attempt to unplug from the world when I go to Eureka.

Boy, do I need this trip. I just hope I can go and not feel inclined to stay there permanently.

I've decided that it's time to break down and stop putting off the purchase of a new camera. My 33mm crapped out a few months ago, and I've been resisting getting a replacement mostly because I'm intimidated by the prospect of having to acclimate myself to digital film and all the technology that comes with it. I know I can pick up on how this stuff works, but I hate the fact that so many digital cameras are all tiny, don't look capable of capturing sizable images, and lend themselves to getting lost or misplaced by scatterbrains such as myself. And I've seen ones that look like real cameras, but I don't know if I need one with all the bells and whistles they include.

Any suggestions? I'll willing to drop up to $300, and am primarily looking for something that would be good for vacations and everyday pics and such, but could also produce good images in the event that I ever have to shoot stuff to go along with article assignments.
