As if I didn't have enough reason to feel out of sorts, I just visited the site for the Old Town School of Folk Music, only to find that the benefit they're hosting with a performance by Loretta Lynn cost 150 bucks a head.
I don't think that's an unfair price for a fundraiser, and the Old Town School is an important cause I would gladly support if I was more flush with cash. But I'm not. And it sucks because when I read about this show in TimeOut last week, I got all excited thinking how cool it would be to bear witness to such a legendary lady. Admittedly, I haven't heard a shit ton of Loretta Lynn's music, but she's one of the few country musicians that doesn't make me wanna barf, and I love the way she tells touching personal stories through her music. Honestly, I was kind of hoping that seeing one of her performances would do something to make up for never having had the chance to see Johnny Cash live in concert. Alas, it is not to be.
Guess I'll have to settle for spinning my copy of Van Lear Rose on the ole' CD player. Maybe I'll play it extra loud so I can pretend it's coming from a stage with amplifiers.
Fuck, I'm lame.
