I really need to start getting dressed for work, but I'm moving slow this morning, and sitting on my living room carpet listening to the not-so-distant morning song of a cheerful bird.

I really just want to keep sitting. And keep listening. I want time to stop, if only for a week or so. If I'm to be completely honest, I'm a little tired of the daily grind these days. I grow weary of my place within the rat race.

But I can't opt out, or if I can, I'm not fully clear on how to go about it. So I must press on until I can find a better way to live.

If nothing else, I have more reading to look forward to. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is a delightful story, a thousand times better than it is in movie form. Makes me wish for my own magical night of romance and music, but then again, doesn't everything?

Alright, enough of this. I gotta find some clothes.
My mood has drastically improved since I posted my last entry.

Wanna know why?

I was walking across the bridge over the river, and when I entered the plaza in front of my office building I encountered some friendly people promoting this:

Needless to say, they didn't have to push me too hard to get me to shell out five bucks for my very own rubber duckie competitor. Now I get a chance to win some cool prizes, and all while supporting a good cause!

I was so excited I even bought a mini-souvenir duck for my cube, and after displaying it proudly convinced my entire team to get in on the race as well.

I'll get to view the race from the window behind my desk, and I CAN'T WAIT to see the river once it's teeming with yellow, sunglasses-adorned rubber ducks. Might even go pose for a pic with the guy in the duck suit on Michigan Avenue, if I should feel so inspired by the classic rock they're blaring down there.

THESE are the surreal moments that make all the downtime in between worthwhile. I just have to keep that in mind the next time I'm complaining about how boring and pointless my life is....
