Heh, you thought I was end that with the phrase, "the hooooo train" didn't ya?
Well, I'm not. I am however, about to throw together a suitcase for another kind of train ride.
Riding the Blue Line up to Rosemont, where I have a hotel reservation waiting. It'll be my home base the next two nights so as to have easy access to all the comic book geekery.
Wanna know something funny? In past years, I often kind of felt that I was tagging along with Mike to these things, felt like we were there primarily to fulfill his interest, and the fact that I found activities and things that I liked was a result of happenstance more than anything else.
But this year? This year, paying admission on my own dime, being free of Earth-2 obligations (not that I minded them, but still), I feel like I've got carte blanche to let my geek flag fly in a way that I haven't in years past.
I don't have a whole helluva lot on my agenda, but I am excited about the following:
Visiting with my pal/artist extraordinaire Jeff Zwirek and hopefully getting to connect with his wife Emily, who I'm also good friends with, at some point as well.
Catching up with my film school compadre Marc.
Meeting Ted DiBiase!
Spending oodles of time scouting artists' alley as I always do, and maybe seeing some old familiar faces.
Meeting Peter Facinelli (that is, if he's still coming. There was no mention of him in the program that I picked up last night).
Attending panels without having been assigned to cover them for the podcast. Again, let me reiterate that I have NEVER objected to my Earth-2 duties, but it's just kind of nice to be able to pick and choose all the ones that I'll be sitting through.
Attending one panel in particular....one that features a retrospective of the work of James O'Barr!!!! Crow artwork FTW!
Eating bad fattening greasy convention food. The cafeteria is way overpriced, but I've come to look forward to the fries that they serve, especially since they offer mustard for dipping in a dispenser in addition to having it in the foil packets.
And finally? Tee-heeing at Virgil trying to attract attention to his table. At least, until his efforts make me feel sorry for him.
Alright, so that's what I'm anticipating. We'll see if this weekend lives up to my expectations.
In the meantime, I gotta finish packing.
Watch out fanboys!!!!! Jenny's comin!
