So you know how I've been a bit anxious to confirm Weevil's good health, after the death of my sister's kitties made me a bit paranoid?

Well, I brought him to the vet for his first physical this morning. I was really dreading it, anticipating a fight to get him in his carrier. But thanks to the expert kitty catching skills of my friend Rob, we had him bagged and ready to go in only a few minutes. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't without a little difficulty. Weeve tried to resist us by peeing on the carpet, and letting loose with a mournful meow, but aside from that he was surprisingly cooperative.

He stayed silent throughout the short ride to the animal hospital, and didn't squirm much once he was on the examination table. There was one more sad meow from him as he got checked out, but the vet was quick and gentle and I stayed close the whole time to pet him and keep him calm. I'm sure the fact that I spritzed the hell out of his carrier with a spray containing Feliway also contributed to Weeve remaining mostly still and docile.

The exam was over in a matter of like 20 minutes. He got his ears cleaned and a scratch above his eye treated with some ointment, but other than that his bill of health was clean. Seems the poop problem I wrote about a few entries ago was him just being a tiny bit constipated. I fixed that before the appointment by serving him Laxatone and using wet food for his evening feeding for about a week.

As for the mysterious butt scooting? I learned, as was suggested by a couple of friends, that Weeve was simply expressing his anal glands. They showed no signs of being impacted and so the doc told me this was nothing to worry about. He was even kind enough to purge the tiny amount of fluid that Weeve had failed to release on his own.

With that out of the way, it was back to the carrier for Weeve. Rob took us home after I paid my bill and I released my fluffy friend immediately. Initially he hid under my couch, but has since crept out to prowl around a bit and seems none the worse for wear. I gave him some tuna for his morning meal to reward him for handling the ordeal with relative grace and I don't plan on taking him out of the house again until he's due for his shots in August.

I'm sure he won't argue with me over that. :)
