And it all comes down to this...
Jun. 22nd, 2010 02:42 pmI have to admit, I'm feeling a bit of a letdown now that I'm about to wrap up this music meme. I've really enjoyed showing who I am through song, and I'm afraid that without the benefit of these prompts I won't have all that much to post about.
Ah, who am I kidding?
I never run out of things to blog about! I'd turn it into full-blown career if I thought I could generate steady income talking about myself! ;)
Having acknowledged this, I feel much more up to the task at hand, which is answering the following:
Day 17 - A song that makes you laugh
I think this is another one that's gonna surprise you. Ready for some music? I'll explain why it makes me laugh in a sec....
*Cues drum roll*
So......Europe. It may not be intentionally comedic, but any time I heard it I have a helluva time keeping a straight face.
Mostly that's because the song is downright ridiculous in and of itself. I mean, really, how can anyone take sci-fi heavy metal seriously, right? Of course, that's part of it's charm though. I feel like it was played and recorded in all earnestness, and for that reason, I'm willing to accept it as a guilty pleasure. What can I say, it appeals to my inner cheeseball!
Another reason this song cracks me up, is because it takes me back to certain moments I've had at indy wrestling shows. There was the time when Sara Del Ray used this as her entrance theme in Shimmer, and this random fan stood up and shouted excitedly, "The Final Countdown!!!" loud enough to be heard over the music. He was being ironic, but it was so unexpected and well-played that it got everyone laughing, and it wasn't annoying like it usually is when fans try to make themselves a part of the show.
And let's not forget Bryan Danielson's use of this as an entrance theme when he was in ROH. I'm not even sure I can adequately capture in words what it was like to watch a whole field house worth of smarks rise from their seats, so that they could all pump their fists and sing not only the chorus, but also all of the "Do do do do dooos" in unison. You can imagine it, I hope. If you can't, the best I can do is to say that from my perspective, it was gold. Pure comedy gold.
So yeah, I guess that pretty much sums things up. Guess this means I'm gonna have to actually start posting about my life in the present moment, huh?
You know what that means, don'tcha?
Lots of novel status updates!!! And Weevil stories!
C'mon, I know you're breathless with anticipation!
;)
