Swatchdogs and Diet Cokeheads
Jan. 9th, 2011 12:03 amSo today I had to attend a student event at the big Marriott downtown.
During the lunch portion of the program, the only beverages that were available were water, coffee or iced tea. I opted for water since I haven't been drinking enough of it lately. But what I really wanted was a Diet Coke. I've developed a habit of drinking it with lunch these last few years - a habit I've recently had to break since moving to an office where it's not as readily available.
One of the women sitting at my lunch table was part of the events staff, and at one point she left to check on some things and returned with a glass of Diet Coke poured over ice.
She set it down on the table a few feet to my left, and I swear my craving was so bad I could SMELL the fizzing liquid. It was the first time I've ever been aware of Diet Coke even having a scent. And it was strange and a little frightening, because I've not had many instances in my life where I've felt physically dependent on a substance.
I dunno, just wanted to record this little bit of self-awareness.
