Readings.......yay!!!!
Mar. 2nd, 2011 09:23 amMan oh man, did I need last night's dose of Tuesday Funk!
I was the second of five readers, and I busted out one of my favorite novel scenes for the occasion.
In it, my main character Julie is forced to face a boatload of fear and insecurity, and perform in a wrestling match without any prior knowledge or training. I chose that excerpt because it stands on its own pretty well, and it's one of the more lively and vivid scenes (I think) that I've drafted so far.
I wouldn't go so far to say that I killed it, but I heard people laughing at certain moments, which always makes me happy.
But even better than that? The words of a woman sitting at the table just beyond my mic stand. I finished my piece, and amid the applause I heard her exclaim to a friend, "Oooh, I REALLY wanna read that book!"
That alone woulda been enough to make my night, but there's more!
During intermission, I approached the small upstairs bar to get a drink, since my performance was over and I felt entited to a nice treat. I asked the bartender for a glass of wine, and he complimented me on my story and told me the drink was on him!
I can't even begin to express how awesome it is to get this kind of validation. I'm still kind of high from it!
