I think it's been a while since I've subjected you to a post about my emo kitty, Weevil.

Mostly it's because I haven't had anything new to say about him. He's still emo, aside from having warmed up to [livejournal.com profile] writerstephanie a tiny bit, and still does not allow any physical contact after almost two years of co-habitating.

I've accepted this about him for the most part, though I admit I do sometimes feel sad that he doesn't feel safe enough to let me give him some affection.

His rejection of human hands also presents some practical issues, being that he's a long-haired fella. Technically he should receive a thorough brushing at least once a day, and seeing as how that has not happened in almost two years, his fur has gotten quite matted in the areas where he can not adequately groom himself, like his underbelly and his sides near his back legs.

This hasn't seemed to cause him any trouble, but after picking up one too many large tufts of tangled mane off my carpet, I decided that it was time to take matters into my own hands.

Weeve was due for his annual vet appointment anyway, and I figured while I got him in there I might as well fork over for a haircut as well. The vet that I use performs lion cuts with the help of sedation, and knowing that my last attempt at taking him to a real groomer resulted in epic fail, I felt like I had no choice but to have him knocked out and shaved bald.

Aside from him peeing and scratching the hell out of my left arm during my and my sister's attempts to get him in his carrier, this vet visit went pretty well! So now he's gone from looking like this:

I felt a little guilty when I first brought him home, because the sedation hadn't fully worn off and he was stumbling around on wobbly legs not unlike those of newborn Bambi. But he seems to have his bearings about him now. And aside from looking a lot more vulnerable, he's still the exact same emo kitty I know and love.
