With Wrestlemania 28 a mere hours away, it seems fitting that I finally take some time to write about my last big wrestling bender.

It was the most wrestling I've consumed in such a short period, and that's saying a lot, if you take into account the fact that I am someone who used to regularly attend the marathon that was an IWA Midsouth show, back when Ian Rotten was booking anyone who was anyone on the indy scene.

But I'm not here to talk about Ian. Not today.

I'm here to talk about my night of AAW and my two full days of Shimmer Women Athletes.

Where do I even start? I guess I should go back to the evening of Thursday, March 15. There was no wrestling that night, but that's when my show companions, Helene, Bill and Steph arrived in Chicago, and the fun began.

Originally the plan was to kick things off with some girl time, since Helene and Steph wanted to go some place for mani/pedis. I arranged for us to meet at a friend's salon, but they were unexpectedly short-staffed when we arrived, due to an employee's family emergency. So we nixed that and proceeded to Dimo's pizza in Wrigleyville, where we chowed down on slices of deliciousness. Stephers, as someone who has dairy allergies, was delighted to find that their vegan options were plentiful and tasty.

From there, I was invited to tag along with them to the Tattoo Factory, where Helene, Bill and Steph planned on getting some ink. I didn't partake myself, tempting as it was, because I'm still mulling over what I want for my next piece, but it was exciting to be there anyway, because the sound of the buzzing needles always gives me a rush, and because this was Steph's first tattoo experience. I wasn't right next to her in the chair or anything, but it was still super cool to get to witness that moment. She got a word on her foot that had some family significance, and Helene and Bill both got the New Orleans Saint's symbol to commemorate their mutual love for the Big Easy. All of them were worked on by the same guy, who I was told was a delightful man.

Once everyone was finished, I hopped the Red Line home, since I had to work the next morning, and was very amused by some of the characters riding the CTA, including a pair of incredibly drunk, barely legal girls who had just gotten out of a Mindless Self Indulgence show at the House of Blues. They were having a heated discussion about whether or not a mutual friend's boyfriend was abusive. Sad, but highly entertaining.

So that covers day 1. I thought I could cram the whole weekend into one entry, but it looks like I'll have to break things up, since I need to go grab some lunch and buy kitty litter before today's writing group.

Stay tuned for the rest of this story!
