Party like a rock star

Good Saturday to you, my peeps! And indeed it is quite good, because I'm still feeling the effects of last night's music-infused, stress-cleansing excursion. Initially, I thought I would be too exhausted from my busier-than-usual work week to enjoy myself, but I was reminded that there's no such thing as too tired when it comes to karaoke.
That's right, Mike and I went out for karaoke. Not just any old karaoke, mind you. This was for our friend Jeff and his twin brother's 30th birthday, and rather than just wrangling a group to invade a local bar, they did us one better and found an authentic Korean karaoke place. Imagine, if you will, the scene from Lost in Translation, where Scarlett Johannsen and Bill Murray join a group of her friends, and wind up in a private, sound-proofed room where she dons a bright pinkish, purplish wig and he takes the mic for a deadpan rendition of More Than This by Roxy Music. Well, this was something like that, except there was no wig, no Bill Murray, and the sound-proofing wasn't quite as effective. This was the first I'd heard of this place's existence, so I was surprised to see that all the rooms were bursting with people. Not that the appeal isn't obvious, though. I mean, karaoke is amusing enough as is, but its appeal increases ten-fold when you know the only people you'll be making an ass of yourself in front of are your close friends.
mdatl, you would have been proud at how many times I accepted the passed mic to belt out way too much Bon Jovi, some Abba, and an Eminem track that I hadn't previously attempted. Couldn't get Mike to do any G&R, which was a little sad, but he seemed to enjoy watching the rest of us croon to our heart's content.
I enjoyed myself so much that I'm thinking this will be the destination for choice for my 30th celebration next year. Mark your calendars, friends! You'll be expressing yourself through song well before you know it. ;)
