He's dead. Guess that means now's as good a time as any to finally go back and re-read Catcher, huh? I've been avoiding a return to that book, seeing as how I haven't read it since I was fifteen or sixteen and I'm scared to death that it's not going to hold up when I look at it through the eyes of a grown-up.

Though I suppose if I face my fears and lay eyes on his words I'll have something to blog about.

That might be reason enough to go back. Stay tuned as I think this over.....

I first read The Catcher in the Rye when I was 11 or 12 and thought Holden was such a badass for articulating all the rage I felt about phoniness. Unfortunately, like a lot of first loves (and like a lot of baby ducklings), I sort of imprinted on him which meant I've always sought out the angry-young-man archetype. It's understandable when you're 15, less so when you're 35.
