Right now I am watching The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift on TBS. It's kind of ridiculous and cheesy, but in my opinion it ranks right up there with the likes of Over the Top and A Boy Called Hate as far as being so bad it's good.

What is it that makes me love this kind of crap? I guess the whole underdog/outsider gimmick of the main character is the primary draw for me. Not to mention my surprise at seeing how grown up and manly Lucas Black, the kid from Sling Blade has become. And let's not forget the appeal of his thick Alabama drawl!

Yeah, it's pretty easy to fetishize the southern tough guy persona from the safety of my decidedly Yankee living room. Something about a man who is forward yet respectful, humble but also confident, while also being driven (no pun intended), fearless and honorable makes me a little weak in the knees. Maybe this stems from my early exposure to southern culture. Maybe it has to do with my secret love of cowboys.

Or maybe, just maybe, it's just that I am truly my daddy's daughter. He did, in fact love action movies. And while he wasn't a gearhead, he was a little car-obsessed. I can see him watching and enjoying the entire Fast and Furious franchise, so maybe me getting sucked into this film can be explained away as genetics.

I kinda like that reasoning. It's nice to feel like I'm carrying on some sort of legacy. Even if I'm rolling my eyes as I'm doing it.

I got sucked into watching part of "Roadhouse" a couple weeks ago. I could see why everybody was hot for Patrick Swayze. I mean, duh, he's hot, but he seemed to always play this wounded tough guy so you'd be like "I feel protected yet motherly at the same time."

Yeah, the combo of wounded and strong is kryptonite somehow.
