I was just thumbing through my new issue of TimeOut Chicago, and it had a full-page ad for next weekend's Chicago Comic Con, an event for which I have already purchased a ticket. The ad mentioned that Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) and Brent Spiner (Mr. Data from my beloved Star Trek: TNG) would be appearing, which I thought was highly exciting, seeing as how my whole reason for going this year was to meet Patrick Stewart. I jumped online to see if a full schedule had been posted, and much to my chagrin learned that Sir Patrick had a scheduling conflict that forced him to back out, and he will not be meeting and greeting fans after all.
This saves me however much I would have had to pay for his autograph, but it's still sooooooooooo disappointing!!!!
I was really looking forward to having a brief moment in his presence. Just thirty measly seconds so I could tell him that his moving performance in the episode called "Darmok" made me a Picard fan, and more importantly, a TNG fan for life!!!
I think this experience would have trumped the one I had when I met Hulk Hogan last October. But alas, it is not to be. :(
I'll get over it, no doubt. And I'll still get my geek on by meeting Brent Spiner and John DeLancie (the guy who plays Q). But until then, I can't help but feel like the hapless victim of a bait and switch.
