New office

I'm going shopping for a new desk today! That's right, no more dank basement writing space for me...after conquering the comic book clutter, M and I have decided to tackle the dining room next, and convert it into my very own office. I'll be able to write without my feet getting cold, I'll have plenty of light and the kitchen will be merely footsteps away! OK, that last part could be dangerous, since food is much better out of sight and out of mind in my case, but the rest has me giddy with excitement.

I just hope I can find desk that's just right...

I used to have an old, wooden teacher's desk that my mother's elementary school was getting rid of. I loved that desk. Problem was it didn't go through doorways of houses very easily. I managed to get it from the first apartment to the first house and then barely managed to get it into the second house--wrecking a number of door jambs in the process. At that point, it was seriously starting to fall apart--the drawers wouldn't open and close right for one thing. But it was wide and deep and I could put so much on it. I loved that desk.

It didn't make it to the third house. It was dismantled and put in the recycle bin when the time came to move.

I still mourn that desk. (And hate the one I have now. Wish I could find another teacher's desk.)

That's such a sad tale. I mourn your desk and I've never even seen it. Especially since I know that even though I'm pretty happy with the one I'm going to get (we have to figure out a way to get it home from Ikea) particleboard pales in comparison to real wood.
