How gas prices managed to get so high with little to no fanfare? Where's the righteous indignation? And the alarmist news headlines?

Or have I just been living under a rock since I've been taking the train mostly and haven't had the need to fill the gas tank?

I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday - damn, it took $34.99 to fill up my Ford Taurus.

It is not in the media's best interest to "sound the alarm" of righteous indignation because most of the media are owned by the large corporations who benefit from higher prices of gas.

One needs to look beyond the "usual suspects" of the media to find the true story--or the complete story--of what is going on in the country. We don't hear much about Halliburton anymore do we? But that saga continues...

One of the commentaries I hear from time to time that fuels my own indignation is that "Americans don't want to take the measures necessary to decrease their fuel consumption." While that may be true for a certain percentage of the population who continues to purchase large SUVs and Hummers, the fact is that the majority of the population simply isn't capable of cutting back on consumption.

America does not have comprehensive rail systems, except in large cities such as Boston, New York, Chicago. Also, there is no good bus service in most of the country. People must commute distances to their jobs because of the high cost of real estate. Yes, some people take advantage of car pooling, but that isn't always feasible.

And the government continues to talk about reducing funding to Amtrak and other commuter rail services on the east coast. Yes, that will certainly help the situation.

We need a revolution. But we're still too comfortable in our lives to actually get motivated and start one.
